JohnPress Leadership Advisory has a unique lineage which traces back to a small Buddhist monastery in South Korea in the late 1950’s. During this time, a young boy named Yi was a resident studying martial arts and Buddhism. One day, a group of men in suits visited the mountain monastery seeking the guidance of the temple’s Bup Sa (headmaster). The young monk watched carefully as the men visited with his Master the entire day. When the men left, Yi asked his Master who the strangely dressed men were and why he spent the entire day speaking with them. His Master told him they were governmental leaders of the burgeoning nation seeking guidance on how to lead the country forward after a bitter war.
In 1986 a young martial artist Tim JohnPress, (founding partner of the JohnPress Leadership Advisory) first heard his teacher Master Yi share this story with his students to teach them the importance of having a strong philosophy to guide their training and their life. Intrigued by his teacher’s story Tim dedicated his life to learning and understanding what would make a humble monk so respected and valued by a country’s leaders.
In addition to his electrical engineering career, Tim taught martial arts in the evenings throughout the 1980’s and 90’s working with students mentally, physically and spiritually to reach higher levels of performance and wisdom. The strong philosophy passed on to him by his teacher was appealing to the professionals and leaders in his classes who began to seek his advice on matters beyond the martial arts. These conversations in the dojang were the beginning of The JohnPress Leadership Advisory.
In 1997 Tim left a successful engineering career and began working leaders applying the same principles and practices passed on to him from his teacher and his teacher.
Today, JohnPress Leadership Advisory works with coaches, entrepreneurs and business leaders worldwide with the simple focus of helping them reach the Next-Level in their lives and their businesses.
